Well, I managed to get though until about 6pm yesterday feeling half dead, before thinking 'Bugger it, I'm having a coffee.'. Within 15 minutes I was feeling absolutely fine.

So I've decided that cutting down rather than going cold turkey is probably going to be the best option, detox or no detox - and am having what is going to be my only cup of the day at the moment. I'm going to try and limit it to one mug a day for the foreseeable future.

Interesting, as I didn't realise I was actually addicted to caffeine - I normally manage to skate quite close to the line without crossing it. I drink far too much alcohol, for example, but I don't *need* to drink. If there are biscuits open I have to eat at least half the pack, but I never feel the need to buy biscuits. Other than an over-dependence on [livejournal.com profile] lupercal and [livejournal.com profile] veelow I do seem to be able to take it or leave it, whatever.

Anyway, the ambrosia has been consumed, so it's time to get on with Useful Stuff. And the first thing I'm going to do today is go out and buy a *really* big mug...

It's a nasty, nasty drug. I've been on and off it since Christmas, but have actually given it up completely for the last couple of weeks.

Thank god I don't have to be awake for work...

A bucket is not a mug, hon - remember that!

I did manage to knock caffeine completely on the head a few years ago, for about six months. The first few days are rotten, but the brain adapts quite quickly to the lack of stimulant, because the bits that react to caffeine become less effective the more, and more regularly, you consume it. The only thing that shunted me off the wagon was a row of six night shifts, and I haven't quite clambered back on since - I like my Earl Grey too much...

I kicked a caffeine addiction by getting a cold/flu type thing. I figured I was already in pain, so the withdrawal headache wouldn't really show, and I was staying home and not seeing anyone, so the chance of me committing enraged homicide were slim.
These days, I have the occasional cup, but I'm not a regular coffee-drinker, and an awful lot of coffee, which I would previously have drunk quite happily, now tastes horrible.

I used to get a terrible headache if I didn't have my pint of coffee with second breakfast.

Now I sleep till noon, so I don't care ;)
