I did manage to knock caffeine completely on the head a few years ago, for about six months. The first few days are rotten, but the brain adapts quite quickly to the lack of stimulant, because the bits that react to caffeine become less effective the more, and more regularly, you consume it. The only thing that shunted me off the wagon was a row of six night shifts, and I haven't quite clambered back on since - I like my Earl Grey too much...
