Peter Kay

Watched a recording of Peter Kay at the Comedy Store on Channel 5 last night. I think he's absolutely hilarious and spot on in his observation, but lupercal and I were discussing whether it was a northern thing ot not - do you have to have a northern upbringing to fully get the stuff he does?

So I thought I'd do a poll. For the purpose of this, north means anything above Nottingham, and south anything below it.

I'm not going to fill in the poll, because the ticky that fits me (brought up both North (Stockport) and South (Oxford)) doesn't exist. While you'll probably insist that I'm far more Southern than Northern (and I'd agree with you), a lot of my formative childhood memories came from observing the absurdities of my Northern family half, and I think he's hilarious because large chunks of his routine remind me of that.

However, my flatmate is as Southern as it gets and he was the one who insisted I give Kay (whom I'd only previously seen on bad adverts) a try.

I think it's possibly an identity question. I've lived in what I'd consider 'the south' for over a decade, but I'd still consider myself as 'northern'
