Currently looking at application forms, and the sort of crap you need to write to fill up the big spaces. In the process, I've been looking at a couple I've got saved on the PC from a couple of years back. Personally, I can't understand why I wasn't given an interview, with such high quality hard-sell as:

I am experienced in developing ILT resources, including the English department’s Intranet site. In addition to my experience in college, I have my own personal website, which I update frequently, and have ventured into the realm of commercial web design, building a site for a friend’s business, and receiving the handsome payment of a bottle of Plymouth Dry gin.

and further on, addressing skills I feel I would need to develop...

Budget management is another area of which I do not have a great deal of experience. I do however have the vital role of running Beverage World, the English and Media departments’ coffee club. I have successfully co-ordinated this for three years now, and have without fail ensured a quality and economical provision of hot beverages. In teaching, keeping ones colleagues in caffeine is a major responsibility

*shrug* All I can think is that the letter inviting me for interview got lost in the post...

I like your icon - is it from Molesworth by any chance?

It is Molesworth himself. Although I have just changed to Peason, for refreshment. I confess to also using Ermintrude and Fortherington-Thomas from time to time :-)

I know of someone who used to go into great detail about the kind of chair they would like to sit on if given the job. strangely enough though, this did get them interviews :-S

Any organisation that should choose not to give you an interview based on the content above obviously isn't maintaining the goal-oriented focus on the caffeine and juniper delivery process that is integral to the smooth running of a modern educational establishment. Bunch of amateurs. ;)

I'm writing a personal statement myself, and trying very hard not to make it in the same vein... it's not working very well!

A short while ago I got an interview at a council, I didn't do that wel int he exams, so I didn't get the job - even though it was totally what I wanted to be doing. A couple of months later they advertise a similar job and I re-do the application form making it a little better - alas no interview :-(

Maybe that interview letter was lost in the post too :-/
