We stayed at Shady Neuk (see http://www.orkney.com/shadyneuk/Homepage). Just outside Dounby. Booked direct with Melvin from ad in Visit Orkney brochure (http://www.visitorkney.com - you can see the accomodation online in pdf format there).

Orkney feels far more remote than Scotland - in fact spending a coupole of days in the highlands coming back home was spoilt by not being Orkney.

seriously though are there schools worth keeping an eye on for vacancies either on the island or daily mainland commutable? (This sounds like I wouldn't wail if you two left Birmingham, I would, but am having a huge head thing going on about dream chasing and you seem to know your dreams well enough to be able to chase them)

Unfortunately, I know very little about the Scottish education system, and probably getting a job in that sector would be difficult with my limited expererience of Key Stage 3/4. I'm also not sure I would *want* to teach in a school again. I think a move would definitely require a career change.

I'm considering trying to get a group together for next summer - 6 or 8 people and rent a larger house for a week, as accomodation works out a lot cheaper that way.

Ohhh - it was amazing. I really didn't want to come back, and spent most of the weekend snivelling and pining :( I'd definitely be up for a meetup - when would suit you? I'm pretty busy for the next week or so, but Brum's so close that I can easily pop up for an evening, these days. Do you want to drop me a line through my LJ address, and we'll sort something out :))
