Of course, *many* cats need homes, but these ones are in a particularly desperate situation.

An old woman living in a village where one of my colleagues resides has recently died, leaving behind her *16* cats - by the sound of it, un-neutered and interbred to some extent, ranging from 8 weeks to 8 years.

The son has been to the house, emptied a bag of dog biscuits in the room they're shut in, and left them to it.

People in the village are desperately trying to find homes for the cats - some have been taken in, but there are still several left.

If anyone is interested in having one of these cats, I will give it a lift anywhere in the country so long as there's a good home at the end of the journey.

Please pass this on to anyone else you know who might be able to take on a cat.

Where are they based? The rescue I had Bobbie from are lovely and may be interested if it's travellable.

We could possibly find room for a kitten....but we are all the way in Brighton and I'd have to think carefully as Tiddles could well object.

*Ponders*

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva's wife - we're able to take one cat (or two littermates) if you can bring it/them to Walthamstow.

I'd be happy to drive it/them down to you. These cats are a bit of an unknown quantity to me, as I've only been informed about them by a colleague at work. I am presuming from what I've been told that they're not neutered, and probably not vaccinated. If you want to email me a bit more about the sort of cat/s you're looking for I can find out more about them on Monday. boglin-at-blueyonder.co.uk

I've emailed you, but a friend has just pointed out they could be semi-feral, so I'm adding a caveat of the younger the better, although I expect everyone will go for the kittens first.

Hi, I saw this on a link in catpooka's journal. Have you tried asking the RSPCA or Cat's Protection League to take them? I realise they're not your cats and you're just trying to get them out of there but it seems like the kind of situation where an organisation may be best as they could give the cats medical checks and neuter them. Here are the Warwickshire CPL links.

If you have any more details about the cats feel free to email me at klunkit @ hotmail.com and I can pass the details on to a rescue in Hertfordshire who may be able to help.

Generally, the experience I've had in the past with the CPL and stray cats is that they're always full and can't take them, because of course they never put healthy animals down. If they can get homes, great, if not I presume the RSPCA will be called in, which obviously isn't as good, as they do put healthy animals down. I think my colleague and other people who knew the woman would really rather see if they can find proper homes for them to start off with people who are responsible enough to look after them properly. I presume any others will end up at with the RSPCA.

I'm afraid I don't actually have any more details about the cats myself; I was just told about them this morning by a colleague who lives in the village.
