"April is the cruellest month..."
Apr. 7th, 2005 11:26 pmWell, it is when you have an OFSTED inspection in two weeks, anyway.
Suffice to say, work is not the cheeriest most carefree of places right now.
Unfortunately, the inspection also buggers up Whitby (the weekend before, so I'm going to have to curtail the festivities so I'm at least in the land of the living on the Monday morning), and my birthday - which falls on the Wednesday, meaning I could be inspected on it and on the day after it. I don't think wearing an 'It's my birthday' badge will make me immune to it, or be an acceptable excuse for a hangover either. Chiz, curses.
There also appears to be all the work in the world to be before the inspectors arrive.
My car, obviously as reluctant as I to return to work, decided to welcome the new term by dying. It almost died on Tuesday morning before, like Bunbury, making a splendid recovery for yesterday. This morning it was definitely dead and poor
lupercal had to give me a lift into work. This afternoon, it was well enough to be taken to the local garage, where it was diagnosed as needing a new battery. The operation was performed with dexterity and efficiency, so I was able to drive it straight back home again, forget that the headlights were on, and leave the little malignant globes to suck the life out of the shiny new battery that had just been fitted. Bugger. I do have some excuse for this as the electrics on my car are utterly screwed, and so now the small *miiiiiiiiip* I expect to hear if I've left my lights on when I open the door doesn't happen
Many thanks to
pax_draconis for extracting the impotent lump of acid and the loan of his battery charger.
In other news, Barcelona was fabulous - I'd highly recommend it to everyone, and Mab gets ever so slightly bigger every day. I am hoping a time will come when she learns the adage toes are not toys but it doesn't look like that will be any time soon.
Unfortunately, Venny Mouse died last week, and was buried this one. At the time it looked as if Bru was also about to go to the big Swiss Cheese in the sky. Somehow, with the application of a hot water bottle and wet cake, I managed to bring him back from the dead. First Enor and now Bru - one more miracle and I'll be an official mouse saint...
